CV of Dr. Xianlong Zhang

 

Zhang Xianlong, male, was born in March 1963, Shangcai county, Henan province. Dr. Zhang graduated in 1990 from Huazhong Agricultural University where he also obtained his doctoral degree (Ph.D.). In July 1990 he was appointed as a faculty member of Huazhong Agricultural University, when he started his teaching and research career. He was a visiting researcher for one year (1993-1994) in the Department of Plant Science, University of Manitoba, and then he come back to his position, and was promoted as a full professor in January1997. Dr. Zhang is a faculty of the College of Plant Science and Technology, also a PI of the National Key Laboratory for Crop Genetic Improvement since 1992. He has worked as an associate director of the National Key Laboratory since 2002. From June 2002 to February 2008 he was the Dean of College of Plant Science and Technology, and then took the position of Vice President of Huazhong Agricultural University from March 2008 to August 2018. Dr. Zhang is Vice-President of the Cotton Association, Agronomy Society of China, Member of the Crop Society of China, and senior editor of both Acta Agronomica Sinica and Plants, People, Planet. He has been awarded a national second class prize and twice awarded a Provincial first class of prize for his contributions to agriculture. Dr. Zhang and his colleagues have published more than 300 papers, of which 160 papers are published by international journals, giving him an H index of 44, and his SCI papers have been cited more than 6600 times. He has been a recognised highly cited Chinese scholar by Elsevier continuously for recent 5 years. He was honored as a leading talent by the National Ten Thousand Talent Plan, the National Creation and Glory Prize and a National Excellent Teacher in Education. Dr. Zhang is also honored as a‘National Outstanding Scientist and Hubei Provincial Ten Best Ethical Teacher.

Dr. Zhang Xianlongs research focuses on Crop Science. He has made great achievements in developing genetics and creating technologies in cotton breeding, and his cotton varieties are broadly used in cotton production.
