Zhaohu Li said in his welcoming speech that the rapid development of China's economy had attracted more and more foreign teachers to work and settle in China. He hoped that Kenichi Tsuda could make full use of his expertise, promote the development of plant protection in schools, focus on training more outstanding talents, and further play an active role in applying for high-level scientific research projects and internationalizing the teaching staff after taking office. Subsequently, Kenichi Tsuda was issued a letter of appointment, worn a school emblem, and sent the green plant for blessing that the whole family would work, study and live happily in China by Zhaohu Li.

Kenichi Tsuda shared his love of Chinese culture and history and said it was a great honor to join Huazhong Agricultural University. He said that this was the new starting point of his career, and hoped that he could continue his favorite career in scientific research in Huazhong Agricultural University, the new achievements would be made in the fields of scientific research and personnel training, and the development of school would be promoted.

Professor Daohong Jiang, a Chang Jiang Scholar and leader in plant protection, highly valued the academic achievements and influence of Kenichi Tsuda, hoping that his joining could further promote the development of plant pathology and promote the construction of "Double First-Class" in the school and he will actively integrate into Chinese culture, work and live happily while strengthening scientific research.

Professor Jianbing Yan, a Chang Jiang scholar and the Dean of the College of Plant Science and Technology, said that the induction of the professor in Kenichi Tsuda greatly enriched the faculty of the college and promoted the level of international exchange. It is hoped that he will build a platform for international communication, and attract more young teachers to participate in and expand the field of vision of teachers and students through exchanges and cooperation with foreign teams. He said that he would help Professor Kenichi Tsuda to set up a laboratory as soon as possible and adapt to the scientific research, study and life, and hoped that he would make a greater contribution to the development of the college, the training of talents and the cultural exchange.

The personnel who attended the ceremony also visited the laboratory and office of Kenichi Tsuda on the sixth floor of the third complex building. At present, he has formed a research team of seven people, including two postdoctoral students, one assistant and three graduate students. and the related research work has been started.

It is reported that in May 2018, Professor Jianbing Yan organized an international seminar on plants and microorganisms between China and Germany, met Professor Kenichi Tsuda, and carried out in-depth exchanges in relevant research fields. During the meeting, Professor Jin Tian Xianyi was invited to join our school. In July 2018, Professor Kenichi Tsuda visited our school with his family, and conducted an in-depth understanding of the scientific research situation, hardware facilities, teaching work and children's education. He expressed great agreement with the academic atmosphere and history and culture of Huazhong Agricultural University. After careful comparison and consideration, he finally chose to join our school.

The person in charge said that Professor Kenichi Tsuda's full-time entry into our school would play an important role in exploring the international exchange mechanism, improving the level of international exchanges and cultivating students' international vision, and was of great significance to the implementation of the spirit of the 10th Party Congress.

Responsible comrades of the Ministry of Human Resources and Ministry of International Cooperation and Communication, members of the leading group of the College of Plant Science and Technology, and teachers of plant protection participated in the appointment ceremony.

Since April 1995, Kenichi Tsuda has studied for a bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctorate in biological science from Hokkaido University in Japan. He received his doctorate in September 2004. After completing his doctorate, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Hokkaido and the University of Minnesota. From April 2010 to November 2011, he worked as a research associate at the University of Minnesota. He served as a group leader of the research group at the Max Planck Plant Breeding Institute in Germany from 2011 to August 2019.

He has presided over the key scientific research projects of DFG and SFB in Germany, and has been funded by the German Association for Scientific Research. He has trained 9 doctors and 4 postdoctoral students, three of whom have become professors.  He also served as a member of the editorial committee of Journal of Plant Research, the subeditor of  Frontiers in Microbiology and Frontiers in Plant Sciences, the guest editor of eLife, the reviewer of international high-level magazines such as Nature, PNAS, Curr.Biol and EMBO J.

Dr. Tsuda began to study plant stress resistance from undergraduate level. At and before the Ph.D. stage, he studied the transcription mechanism of plants under abiotic stress conditions, including the study of polyprotein bridge factor 1 (MBF1) in Arabidopsis thaliana. During this period, he also engaged in the use of transgenic plants (Arabidopsis thaliana) to monitor estrogen in the environment. He began to study plant innate immunity system at the University of Minnesota, specializing in the study of the relationship between plant defense response and salicylic acid mediated defense response stimulated by plant pathogenic bacteria (Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000)MAMP. During this period, he also worked with colleagues to study the immune response mechanism related to plant pathogenic fungi. In Germany, Dr. Tsuda continued to work on plant immune interaction networks.

Dr. Tsuda, a high-yielding scholar, has published 61 research papers, especially since the work of Germany, and he published important research papers on high-level academic journals, such as the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA (5), PLANT CELL (2), EMBO Reports (1), and LoS Genetics (4). He also published an overview paper in the authoritative industry academic journals, such as the Annual Review of Phytopathology and Current Opinion in Plant Biology (3).

During the last five years, he published 31 academic papers in the field, including 16 articles of communication and first author, published in the journal of high-level academic mainstream, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA, The Plant Cel, EMBO Reports, PLoS Genetics, New Phytologist, Annual Review of Phytopathology, Current Opinion in Plant Biology, Nature Communications and so on. On the basis of the published articles, his H-index was 27, and his paper (as of November 2018) was cited as 2791, 2613 of which were cited by others, with 7 of the high-cited papers, and was invited to do more than 70 academic reports in several international and related academic institutions.
